For those who are just starting out and want to participate in an escape room adventure, then the first thing they need to do is choose which theme. There are some tips for doing this.
Number of Players
As escape rooms come in different sizes, it allows for having different sized teams. The newbie to this game may want to start with a small team first until they become used to it. Then, new members can be added to the team when the players are going to continue in the future.
The age of the team is going to be important because there is a thought process that must be done throughout the entirety of the game. If the players are too young, based on the theme that is being chosen, then they are not going to enjoy the game or be able to participate as much.
Degree of Difficulty
New players should find a room that has a simple theme; this is the best way to become introduced to escape rooms. A theme that is too difficult will be a waste of money and lead to frustration.
Players will soon discover that there are all different types of puzzle categories. Before choosing a theme, these categories should be researched first. That way, it will give the players an idea if this particular themed room is one that they are going to be able to enjoy, as well as if they have enough basic knowledge to be able to solve the challenges. However, no specific expertise is needed, as clues will be provided. Then it is up to the players to decipher those clues.
It might be a good idea to stick with the same escape room several times over, as there are all kinds of different versions of the game that can be played. This way, teams can build their expertise and will become much quicker.
